EP: Long Live
How did you come up with the name of your new EP "Long Live"?
Hope: Honestly, it just popped into my head one day when I was thinking about the band! I texted Greg and asked about calling the next EP Long Live and we hadn’t even written or recorded one song for it. It was just a concept I randomly came up with, I thought it defined the status of VISTA perfectly.
Greg: Yeah, somehow that made a bunch of sense to me once I heard it, so it stuck.
What sparked your aural addiction?
Hope: My dad. I used to try and mimic his guitar playing, but never could. I was fascinated by it.
Greg: I’d probably say it was my older brother and the music he was into. Him showing me Green Day and My Chem and me being sort of intrigued and sort of terrified.
Who would you like to collaborate with?
Hope: QUEEN GAGA. MY QUEEN.
Greg: I don't even know. There’s so many. Gaga would be awesome though, I agree!
Are there any genres of music you would like to try or avoid?
Hope: I mean, we’re not a rap group or a country band. But we like to explore within our genre and see what we can come up with. We’re not completely confined, musical experimentation is a huge part of VISTA and our new record.
Greg: I love rap a lot actually. I agree with Hope, we experiment with a ton of stuff, not everything makes the cut, but we try. I think the last thing we would do is try to make VISTA a country band.
Hope: What a trip that would be, hahahaha.
If/when you’re lacking inspiration, how do you kickstart your creativity?
Greg: Whenever I'm lacking creativity is when things in my life are going just okay. If they're not AMAZING or absolutely terrible, I’m not really good at writing. Extreme emotion helps me think a lot.
Hope: I look at the news headlines. Honestly, that helps me a lot, which is sad, but it gives me a lot of motivation to create something that will inspire others to take action during these trying times.
What was the first album you ever bought?
Greg: I believe it’s Green Day’s “American Idiot”. Not sure tho!
Hope: My first was Britney’s “...Baby One More Time”! Still have the same copy, I put lil heart stickers all over the front :)
What is currently on your playlist?
Greg: I've been listening to the new Brand New and Turnover albums nonstop. That's pretty much it!
Hope: The new Thirty Seconds To Mars song is literally incredible. I also actually really like Kesha’s new record, she’s got a super cool vibe going on. AND I AM READY FOR NEW MILEY BABY.
What is your favorite type of performance venue?
Greg: I would love to answer this but I haven't experienced it all yet. Any performance that's packed and is run by a venue who gives a shit about you is a good performance in my book. I’m assuming playing arenas is awesome.
Hope: I just like playing. Granted, I like venues that have actual stages and stuff, but in general, I just love any chance we get to play and make the absolute best of whatever live situation we’re in.
How have your surroundings influenced your music?
Greg: Literally everything about my surroundings influences my music. My surroundings influence how I feel so therefore I write what I feel. It's a very transparent process.
Hope: Same, everything that surrounds me is what inspires me. I mentioned world events a few answers ago, but what I see friends going through, anything in my personal life that I’m experiencing, things like that inspire both music and lyrics for me, because music is so personal.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
Hope: I am deathly allergic to nuts. VISTA is a nut free band, and Greg hates me for it.
Greg: Maybe Hope is secretly keeping me healthy so I stop eating so much peanut butter. Hmm. I can turn my tongue upside down! I don't know. That's a lame one I guess.
Hope: I think peanut butter is good for you, but I’m really not sure.
Anything you’d like to add?
Hope: Thank you for checking out VISTA, hope you enjoy the new record :)
Greg: Thank you! Give Long Live a spin if you get a chance :). Also be nice to everyone and don't cause any intentional harm. Thanks!
