Artist: Ryan Riback
Single: "One Last Time"
Tell us about your single “One Last Time”.
"One Last Time" is about a breakup. It's that one last night you spend together before it's really over. I liked the concept because the song makes the breakup one that's not too sad. Sometimes people just don't fit, which is ok, and it's ok to just admit it to each other without anger, fighting, or drama. This song shows that. "Give me one last night before we say goodbye."
Are there certain qualities/elements of a song that make it ideal for you to remix?
Yeah, although it's hard to describe. When I hear a song that someone has asked me to remix, I can generally tell immediately if I have a thought or idea for it. I can also sometimes tell immediately if it's just not going to be my thing. That's typically a tempo issue for me. Otherwise, it's just a feeling.
What sparked your aural addiction?
It was always something in me, even since I was a baby. I just loved music! My mom would definitely take credit for nurturing my creative and musical side.
You’ve received kudos from greats like Tiësto and remixed chart-toppers like Maroon 5! What has been your most memorable moment so far?
I'd have to say it was hearing that my remix of "Call on Me" went platinum in the U.S. That's 1 million sales! Holy cow!
Who would you like to collaborate with next?
I don't have one specific person. There are so many artists I love! Artists, enquire within. :)
What is currently on your playlist?
Zedd, R3hab, Kygo, Rita Ora, Sigala, JP Cooper
If/when you’re lacking inspiration, how do you kickstart your creativity?
I try to start my day with a walk along the beach, listening to music. That tends to get me in the right headspace. If I'm in the midst of a session I generally just stop working on whatever is making me stuck and go for another walk, or I revisit the next day. :)
How have your surroundings influenced your musical style?
I guess Melbourne is such a creative place already, and where I live by the beach makes it even more cool. So, the lifestyle in Australia definitely plays a role... seems to be a few Aussies making waves overseas!
