How did you come up with the name for your new album "Chasing Happy"?
I just selected it from my song choices. I wrote a bunch of songs and when I got to the song "Chasing Happy", I was like 'That's it, that's going to be the title of my album.
Such a great track, the whole album is fantastic. Which track is your favorite from the album Are there any genres of music?
I'm going to say "Chasing Happy" again, that's my song from this album. I do love all the other ones but even before that song was recorded, I got it tattooed on my arm. So yeah I love that song!
Are there any genres of music that you would like to try or avoid?
I'm up for anything--I'm like game on! I know I feel more comfortable doing pop-rock and doing my thing over a track but I'm into experimenting and trying out new things and new sounds all the time. I love all types of music so I would never discredit or count out any genre. I think they're all cool for what they do.
You got to work with Cameron Webb who has produced on Motörhead tracks; what was that like?
I'm so honored and grateful to have been able to work with him. He's really cool, I enjoy him as a producer and as a friend. He really listens to your ideas and helps to get the best out of you. That's something you can't take for granted when you're working on your own personal music. You're so vulnerable, sharing your stories. Having a person like Cameron there listening, helping you, and guiding you through everything and at the same time making it sound amazing. It is everything you could ever ask for.
What inspired you to write your holiday track "I Don't Want To Trim Your Tree"?
It came about because it seems like everybody always decorates for Christmas right after Halloween. My birthday is in November so I was thinking kind of "That's not fair, let me at least have my birthday first." So I wrote this song inspired by early decorating. I love Christmas though, it's my favorite holiday out of all the holidays and I thought it would be fun/funny to do a song leaning towards like "Gimme a break with all of your hustle and bustle."
I don't ever want anyone to get the wrong impression about the song though because I do love the holidays. There are some years where some people are just not feeling very celebratory with the holidays. There's always, unfortunately, things that are going on in people's lives. It can be hard to get yourself jolly feeling and you just want to lay low and get through it.
What's currently on your playlist?
Bruno Mars' new album, Metallica, they just released a new one too. I'll bounce back and forth between Metallica and Bruno Mars to Skrillex then back to Paramore--I'm all over the place!
What's the first album you ever bought?
People always ask me that and I can't tell you a true memory of the first album I ever bought. But I can tell you an embarrassing story that my mom did for me. It was around the time No Doubt's album Tragic Kingdom was out and I told her how much I loved the song "Don't Speak."
She actually called into the radio station--she knew nothing about the song or the band--and she sang it to them! She asked them to play it and was singing it to the people on air. So with that, that was the first gifted album and the strongest memory I have of an album that I've ever received.
Though I'm sure that my first record was probably one of the Jacksons, either Janet or Michael that's for sure.
Is there anything you'd like to add?
Chasing Happy is currently out now and available on all the different sites that let you download and purchase new music. I do want to to give a quick shout out to everyone who has been listening to Chasing Happy so far and for giving me a chance. I really appreciate that.
